Second Hand Mountain Bikes

There are two main types of second hand mountain bikes and it's important that you choose the type that is most appropriate for your own needs and preferences. Hard-tail mountain bikes are light, which means that you will find it quick and easy to pedal - even up steep hills. Hard-tail mountain bikes provide the rider with extra front-end suspension which is excellent for riding over bumpy terrain. However, overall, second hand hard-tail mountain bikes are best suited for riding on relatively smoother ground and through woods and forests.
For more extreme riding conditions, full-suspension mountain bikes are your best choice. With suspension at the rear end as well as the front end, they are better at absorbing shock than their hard tail counterparts. They are heavier to pedal, but this means you have more control when travelling downhill. Essentially full-suspension used mountain bikes will be suitable for riding over any kind of rough terrain and surface.
Different types of second hand bikes will offer different fits according to their intended uses. For example, a race machine will feel and look quite different to a machine that is designed for exploring trails. In terms of fit, you should be able stand over the top tube of the bike with some clearance and be able to pedal with a slight bend in the know at the bottom of the pedal stroke. However, bear in mind that second hand mountain bikes are highly adjustable: handlebars and seats can easily be altered and stems can be exchanged, enabling you to achieve the perfect fit for your needs.
